By Alanna Durkin Richer | Associated PressDonald Trump for years has promoted baseless claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him. In truth, Trump was the one who tried to steal the election, federal prosecutors said Tuesday in a sprawling indictment that paints the former president as desperate to cling to power. The Justice Department indictment accuses Trump of conspiring with allies and concocting various schemes in a brazen attempt to overturn his election loss to President Joe Biden as his legal challenges floundered in court. The charges brought by special counsel Jack Smith’s prosecution team are built around the words of Trump’s advisers, White House lawyers and others in his inner circle who repeatedly told him there was no fraud. It’s the third time this year the early front-runner in the 2024 Republican presidential primary has been charged in a criminal case. Read more Letters to the Editor.Oakland police staffingis a complex issueIf we are going to have a conversation about Oakland’s shortage of police, it must be grounded in objective facts.First, it is not accurate to say that leaders in Oakland have no concern for public safety. This clearly shows that she is very concerned.Second, the city of Oakland offers new police recruits one of the highest signing bonuses in the state, but the department still has a hard time finding qualified applicants. San Francisco is also having recruitment issues. Finally, the Anti-Police Terror Project provides a check to the sometimes unchecked power and authority of rogue police in Oakland. Woman who fired shots on Bay Bridge while naked charged by SF DA "It's alarming to see an algae outbreak of this size in the Bay for the second year in a row," said Baykeeper science director Jon Rosenfield. "While it's too early to tell how this harmful algae bloom will proceed, there's not much that we can do to stop it once it has started. Prevention is the only cure." Baykeeper urges the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Contro...
