Clarence Thomas claimed income from defunct real estate firm: report says (The Hill) - Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has claimed on financial disclosure documents that his family received hundreds of thousands in income from a now-defunct real estate firm, according to a new report from the Washington Post. The Post reports that Thomas said the income came from Ginger, Ltd., Partnership, a real estate firm launched by his wife, Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, and her family, that was shut down in 2006. A new firm was opened under the name Ginger Holdings, LLC, according to the report, but Thomas continued to claim income from the unused firm. The Post notes that the discrepancy could be a mere error, but it comes as Thomas faces scrutiny for his finances as he serves on the nation’s highest court. A ProPublica report earlier this month said a Republican mega-donor paid for Thomas to take part in various luxury vacations over two decades, which the justice did not disclose. A subsequent report found that Thomas also didn’t disclose a 2014 re...

The thing is that when I went to pick him up she invited me in the house and I noticed that her home has several paintings on the walls that are nudes. Not dirty nudes but nudes. It makes me wonder if I should continue to let my kid go over there. He didn’t say anything to me about it but I feel like they should take the pictures down if they know they are having other people’s children over. Ask Amy: Mother ponders family’s entrenched estrangement Dear Amy: I am the mother of three daughters, and I’m hurting so bad.During the pandemic in 2020, my middle daughter (an anesthesiologist) passed away suddenly. She lived several states away from me.My oldest daughter and youngest daughter immediately flew out to her town. They did not invite me to fly with them.I was simply crushed.I had an accident years ago and lost a great portion of my hearing, so navigating an airport was just too stressful for me to handle alone.Driving more than 1,000 miles alone was not an option, either.Sadly, I did not get to attend the funeral.I told my oldest daughter how hurt I was over their actions in not helping me to get to the funeral.I got no response.Related ArticlesAsk Amy | Ask Amy: Houseguest needs nosh; raids pantry Ask Amy | Ask Amy: Struggling relative wants to RSVP well Ask Amy | Ask Amy: Legacy employee contemplates retirement Ask Amy | Ask Amy: Theater kid’s future rests on a curt...

‘My son should be here’: 6 years later, justice still sought in Cal Poly Humboldt student’s death Saturday marked the sixth year since Cal Poly Humboldt student David Josiah Lawson was fatally stabbed. His family and loved ones met with Humboldt County District Attorney Stacey Eads on Friday, who promised to spend the next three months reviewing the case.Lawson’s family wants Eads to pursue murder charges against Kyle Zoellner, a McKinleyville man who was initially charged with fatally stabbing Lawson at a party in Arcata in the early morning hours of April 15, 2017, but a judge decided there wasn’t enough compelling evidence for the case to warrant a trial. Michelle-Charmaine Lawson, Lawson’s mother, said the prosecution of Zoellner must come sooner.“She’ll have an answer for us, probably in about three months, but I don’t think you need three months to solve this case (that) is already solved. She just needs to prosecute Kyle Zoellner,” Michelle-Charmaine Lawson said.Lawson said the accumulated evidence in the case, which includes Zoellner’s bloody clothing, and his DNA under ...

Dear Gov. Newsom: People are dying in the Rehab Riviera. Do something

Dear Gov. Newsom: People are dying in the Rehab Riviera. Do something Hey, Gov. Newsom! Hope you’re doing well up there. For us? Down here, you know, not so much.I can’t believe it but it has been six years since the Southern California News Group began chronicling the tragic cycle of fraud, death, abuse and abject failure in California’s startlingly unregulated addiction treatment industry. In that time, not much has changed. You have kids, Gov. Newsom. Can you imagine taking a lost, troubled child to a fancy seaside treatment center — licensed by our state — promising medical supervision and group therapy and a new lease on life, only to learn that the kid died in his sleep because there’s no doctor for miles and no one was checking as he detoxed?Or because he got hold of drugs packed with fentanyl and overdosed in his room?Or because he was tossed out for being high and staggered alone to a nearby parking lot and swallowed the rest of the pills in his pocket, dying behind a gas station garbage bin?I’m a parent, too, Gov. Newsom. If I speak to one mor...
